Alekszandr Dvornyikov hadseregtábornokot, Oroszország déli katonai körzetének parancsnokát magas rangú források szerint Oroszország ukrajnai hadjáratának parancsnokává nevezték ki.



A tábornok tapasztalatait nagyra tartják Oroszországban.

Dvornikov az orosz haderőcsoport vezetésével szerzett feltűnést Szíriában, ahol Moszkva 2015 óta folytat katonai missziót Bassár Aszad elnök támogatására.



Dvornikov a pályafutását szakaszparancsnokként kezdte 1982-ben. Harcolt a második csecsenföldi háború alatt, és több vezető pozíciót is betöltött, mielőtt 2015-ben a szíriai orosz csapatok élére állították.



2016-ban Putyin Dvornyikovot Oroszország hőse éremmel tüntette ki, amely az ország egyik legmagasabb kitüntetése.
