A jelentés szerint az ügy előzménye, hogy Elon Musk a Twitter-fiókjában azt írta: „Lehet, hogy ez a választás megkérdőjelezhető volt, de semmi kétség, hogy valódi puccs volt.”
Válaszában Podoljak visszautasította Musk állítását, hangsúlyozva, hogy a 2014-es Majdan eseményei nem nevezhetők puccsnak. Egyúttal azt tanácsolta az amerikai üzletembernek, hogy ne olvasson orosz propagandát. „A szabad társadalmak párbeszéden/választásokon keresztül befolyásolják az államokat. A rabszolgasorsú társadalmak utcára vonulnak, hogy megszabaduljanak az elnyomó államoktól. Ez a szabadság bázisa, Elon Musk. Ukrajnában soha nem voltak puccsok, de mindig is voltak szabad emberek. Ne olvass orosz újságokat!” – szólította fel Muskot az elnöki hivatalvezetői tanácsadó.
