Az európai országoknak haditengerészeti erőiket a Tajvani-szorosba kell vezényelniük, hogy biztosítsák a térségben a hajózást – jelentette ki vasárnap Josep Borrell, az Európai Unió kül- és biztonságpolitikai főképviselője egy lapinterjúban, számolt be az rbc.ua hírportál.
A jelentés szerint Borrell a Journal du Dimanche című francia lapnak nyilatkozva elmondta, hogy az Európai Unió álláspontja Tajvannal kapcsolatban egyszerű és következetes. Az EU számára egyetlen Kína létezik, de „nem bármi áron, és természetesen nem erőszak alkalmazásával” – tette hozzá.
Az EU-diplomácia vezetője megjegyezte, hogy Tajvan fontos Európa számára, ezért biztosítani kell a békét ebben a térségben. „Európának jelen kell lennie ebben a minket érintő gazdasági, kereskedelmi és technológiai kérdésben. Ezért arra kérem az európai haditengerészeti erőket, hogy járőrözzenek a Tajvani-szorosban, hogy bizonyítsák Európa elkötelezettségét a hajózás szabadsága mellett ezen a rendkívül fontos területen. Egyúttal ébernek kell lennünk a provokációkkal és az eltúlzott tétekkel szemben” – hangsúlyozta Josep Borrell.

India egy kínai hadihajó Srí Lanka-i horgonyzása miatt azzal vádolja Kínát, hogy katonákat telepít a Tajvani-szorosba.
India „a Tajvani-szoros militarizálásával” vádolta meg Kínát, egy kínai hadihajó kikötése miatt kiéleződött vitában, amelyet egy Srí Lanka-i kikötőben való horgonyzás váltott ki.
Ez az első eset, hogy az indiai kormány megvádolta Kínát, és ilyen módon beavatkozott a Tajvani-szoros kérdésébe. A vádra az indiai Srí Lanka-i nagykövetség vasárnapi közleménye hivatkozott, miközben India a Kínával közös határán tapasztalható feszültségekkel küzd.
A hónap elején egy kínai katonai kutatóhajó egy hétre kikötött Srí Lanka Hambantota kikötőjében, amiről azt állították Indiában, hogy Kína kémkedésre küldte. Elemzők szerint a hajó a Népi Felszabadító Hadsereg által üzemeltetett kínai hajók azon csoportjába tartozik, amelyek műholdak, rakéták és interkontinentális ballisztikus rakéták indítását figyelik.
A Yuan Wang 5 kikötését a Guardian szerint több napig halogatták, miután India tiltakozott, mivel félő, hogy Peking katonai bázisként kívánja használni a kikötőt. A kínai külügyminisztérium szerint a hajó a nemzetközi joggal és gyakorlattal összhangban tengeri tudományos kutatásokat végez, ami nem befolyásolja „egyetlen ország biztonsági és gazdasági érdekeit”.
A Yuan Wang 5 egy hete indult el, de a hétvégén Kína Srí Lanka-i nagykövetsége azzal vádolta meg Indiát, hogy a biztonsági aggályokat arra használja fel, hogy beavatkozzon Srí Lanka szuverenitásába és függetlenségébe.
