A tárgyaláson a vádat előterjesztő és mellette érvelő demokrata párti impeachment-menedzserek csütörtökön a korábbi képviselőházi bizottságok előtti meghallgatások videófelvételeiből mutattak be részleteket, és azt hangoztatták, hogy ukrajnai üzleti ügyei miatt sem Joe Biden egykori alelnök, sem a fia, Hunter Biden nem vádolható korrupcióval. Kárhoztatták viszont Rudy Giulianit, Trump személyes tanácsadóját, aki ukrán tisztségviselőkkel vette fel a kapcsolatot, a többi között annak érdekében, hogy Bidenékre terhelő információkat gyűjtsön.
A csütörtöki tárgyalási napon a szenátorok jó részének
figyelme lankadt. Az egyik republikánus szenátor például keresztrejtvényt
fejtett, egy másik papírrepülőt hajtogatott, Elizabeth Warren demokrata párti
elnökjelölt-aspiráns pedig egy tévétudósítóval játszott valamit. Voltak olyan
republikánus szenátorok is, akik elbóbiskoltak, más pedig könyvet olvasott.
A laptopokat, okostelefonokat és más elektronikus
szerkezeteket kitiltották az ülésteremből a tárgyalás idejére.
Az amerikai közszolgálati rádió (NPR) a tudósításában
megjegyezte: kilenc demokrata párti és huszonkét republikánus szenátor hagyta
el a termet rövidebb-hosszabb időre.
Pénteken a demokrata párti impeachment-menedzserek a Donald
Trump ellen megfogalmazott másik, a kongresszus akadályozására vonatkozó
vádpontjukat fejtik ki.
