Svédország a közeljövőben védelmi együttműködési megállapodás aláírására készül Dániával és Norvégiával a balti térség romló biztonsági helyzete nyomán – közölte csütörtökön a svéd TV4 közszolgálati televízió.
„Ha válsághelyzet alakulna ki, lényegesen jobban fel tudunk készülni azáltal, hogy összehangoljuk terveinket a régióban” – jelentette ki Peter Hultqvist svéd védelmi miniszter a TV4-nek nyilatkozva. „A gyakorlatban ez azt jelenti, hogy gyorsabban fogunk tudni reagálni” – fűzte hozzá a tárcavezető. Hultqvist szerint a három skandináv ország együttes erőforrásai képesek lesznek elriasztani a lehetséges ellenfeleket.
„Tudjuk, hogy Oroszország kész katonai erőt alkalmazni politikai céljai elérésére” – emelte ki a védelmi tárcavezető. Svédország bár nem tagja a NATO-nak, szoros kapcsolatokat ápol az észak-atlanti katonai szövetséggel. Az Oroszországgal fokozódó feszültségek hátterében az utóbbi időben úgy döntött, hogy újjáépíti évtizedeken át elhanyagolt védelmi erőit. A stockholmi vezetés ezért növelte védelmi kiadásait a többi között Patriot rakétaelhárító rendszer beszerzésével az Egyesült Államoktól, illetve elmélyítette katonai együttműködését a NATO-val és szomszédaival, köztük Finnországgal is.
