Vlagyimir Putyin orosz elnök pénteken Moszkvában fogadta Sauli Niinistö finn államfőt, akivel a politikai és a gazdasági együttműködés kérdéseiről tárgyalt.



Az orosz elnök megbízható partnernak és közeli szomszédnak nevezte Finnországot, és emlékeztetett arra, hogy jövőre lesz a kétoldalú alapszerződés aláírásának 30. évfordulója.
Putyin kijelentette: már az idén meghaladható lesz az a veszteség, amelyet az új koronavírusos világjárvány okozott az orosz-finn gazdasági kapcsolatoknak. Rámutatott egyúttal, hogy a két ország közötti kereskedelmi forgalom 21 százalékkal nőtt az előző évhez képest és felújította munkáját a kormányközi vegyesbizottság is.
Niinistö kifejezte meggyőződését, hogy a két ország közötti idegenforgalom ismét el fogja érni a világjárvány előtti szintet. Kijelentette, hogy a klímaváltozásról is tárgyalni kíván vendéglátójával.
Putyin egymáshoz nagyon közelállónak nevezte Moszkvának és Helsinkinek a klímaváltozás elleni harcról vallott álláspontját. Emlékeztetett rá, hogy 2023-ban Oroszország tölti majd be az Arktiszi Tanács elnöki posztját.
Dmitrij Peszkov, a Kreml szóvivője az általa „nagyon konstruktívnak és hasznosnak” minősített tárgyalások után arról tájékoztatta a sajtót, hogy a két elnök a kétoldalú kapcsolatok mellett megvitatta Oroszország és az EU viszonyát – különös tekintettel az energiaágazatra -, az ukrajnai helyzetet és a Baltikum térségének biztonságát. Szóba került a január 1-től bevezetendő orosz nyersfaexport-tilalom. A felek megvitatták az együttműködés lehetőségét a finn faipart érzékenyen érintő ügyben, és szóba került a Saimaa-csatorna használatának lehetséges bővítése is.
Putyin és Niinistö legutóbb 2019 augusztusában, Finnországban találkozott személyesen. A finn elnök 11. alkalommal látogatott el Oroszországba.
Az orosz médiában előzetesen hangzott el olyan utalás, hogy a Niinistö-látogatás összefüggésben lehet egy potenciális orosz-amerikai csúcs szervezésével, erről a lehetőségről a Kreml szóvivője az elmúlt napokban többször is szót ejtett. Helsinki 2018. július 16-án Vlagyimir Putyin orosz és Donald Trump akkori amerikai elnök találkozójának helyszíne volt, de a semleges Finnország fővárosa 1975-ben, 1988-ban és 1990-ben is otthont adott az első számú amerikai és orosz – akkor még szovjet – vezetők eszmecseréinek.
