Az ukrán haditengerészeti flotta brit támogatásáról írt alá megállapodást hétfőn Jeremy Quin védelmi beszerzésekért felelős brit miniszter és Olekszandr Mironyuk helyettes védelmi miniszter az odesszai kikötőben horgonyzó brit HMS Defender rakétahordozó hadihajó fedélzetén – adta hírül az rbc.ua hírportál a Védelmi Minisztérium sajtószolgálatára hivatkozva.
A jelentés szerint a brit és ukrán fél által aláírt dokumentum címe: Memorandum tengerészeti partneri projektek megvalósításáról az Egyesült Királyság ipari konzorciuma és Ukrajna haditengerészeti erői között. A megállapodás hatálya hadihajók Ukrajnában és Nagy-Britanniában történő tervezésére és építésére terjed ki. A felek szerint ez egy további lépés az Ukrajna és Egyesült Királyság közötti kétoldalú együttműködés elmélyítésére a Fekete- és Azovi tengereken folyamatosan veszélyekkel szembesülő ukrán hadiflotta megerősítése érdekében.
Az aláírási ceremónián jelen volt mások mellett Olekszij Danilov, a Nemzetbiztonsági és Védelmi Tanács (RNBO) titkára és Melinda Simmons kijevi brit nagykövet. A résztvevők az angol hadihajó fedélzetéről ugyancsak megszemlélték az ukrán–brit–amerikai tengerészeti hadgyakorlatot.
