Finnország javasolta, hogy az ország nyugati részén lévő Kaugava városában telepítsenek egy NATO katonai bázist – áll Ves Rantala, a város polgármesterének sajtóközleményében, számolt be a Jevropejszka Pravda.
Indokolásában a város jó elhelyezkedését nevezte meg a Baltikum, a Balti-tenger és az összes északi ország szempontjából.
A polgármester arra is felhívta a figyelmet, hogy 2015-ig Kaugavában működött Finnország egyetlen katonai repülőtere.
Ez év elején a finnek többsége nem támogatta állandó NATO-bázisok telepítését az ország területén.
