A protokoll előírások ellenére a hatóságok nem engedték be Vitalij Klicsko kijevi polgármestert vasárnap reggel a Boriszpil nemzetközi repülőtérre, hogy fogadja a hivatalos látogatásra az ukrán fővárosba érkező Angela Merkel német kancellárt – adta hírül az rbc.ua hírportál.
A jelentés szerint Kijev első embere az incidenssel kapcsolatban a médiának elmondta: gáncsoskodásával a regnáló hatalom csak a kicsinyességét és a gyengeségét mutatja. „Meggyőződésem, hogy a hatalomnak a külpolitikában konszolidáltságot, nem pedig kicsinyességet és gyengeséget kell mutatnia” – hangsúlyozta. Hozzátette: márpedig, sajnálatos módon, a hatalom a gyengeségét demonstrálja, gyengítve ezzel Ukrajna nemzetközi pozícióit.
Klicsko aláhúzta, hogy a hatalom ahelyett, hogy azon munkálkodna, miként erősíthetné az ukrán–német kapcsolatokat, tervet dolgozott ki a Merkel és Klicsko találkozójának a megakadályozására.
