Félbeszakadt a brit Konzervatív Párt két kormányfőjelöltje közti kedd esti, élőben közvetített televíziós vita, miután a vitát vezető moderátor eszméletét vesztette.
Liz Truss és Rishi Sunak második vitáját, amelyet a Talk TV televíziós csatorna élőben közvetített, félbe kellett hagyni, miután az egyórás vita felénél puffanás hallatszott. A kamera éppen Trusst mutatta, aki a zajtól megriadt és felkiáltott.
A közvetítés ezután félbeszakadt; de az esemény másik házigazdája, a The Sun nevű napilap egyik újságírója biztosította a jelenlévőket, hogy egészségügyi probléma merült fel valakinél, nem pedig biztonsági incidens történt, s a jelöltek épségben vannak.
A Talk TV közleményben számolt be arról, hogy Kate McCann, a vita egyik moderátora az élő közvetítés során elájult, s noha már jól van, úgy döntöttek a szervezők, hogy nem folytatják a vitát.
Liz Truss hivatalban lévő külügyminiszter és Rishi Sunak volt pénzügyminiszter a jelenleg kormányon lévő brit Konzervatív Párt elnöki tisztségéért – ezzel pedig automatikusan a kormányfői posztért is – versengenek, amelyet eddig Boris Johnson töltött be.
Johnson, az elmúlt hónapok halmozódó botrányai miatt július elején bejelentette lemondását pártja vezetői posztjáról, ezzel miniszterelnöki megbízatása is megszűnt, utódja megválasztásáig azonban még ügyvivő kormányfőként ő marad a kabinet élén.
