Joe Biden amerikai elnök kizárta, hogy Washington katonai erőt alkalmazzon az esetleges ukrajnai orosz invázió ellen, szerinte a gondolat nem időszerű, mert a NATO kollektív védelmi elve nem terjed ki Ukrajnára – adta hírül az rbc.ua hírportál a Reuters hírügynökségre hivatkozva.
A jelentés szerint Biden sajtókonferenciáján elmondta, hogy az elképzelés, miszerint az Egyesült Államok egyoldalúan erőt fog alkalmazni Oroszország ukrajnai inváziója esetén, most nem releváns. Mint aláhúzta, hogy az Egyesült Államok nem tervezi amerikai csapatok telepítését Ukrajna területére. A NATO kollektív védelmi elve nem vonatkozik Ukrajnára – mutatott rá.
Az elnök megjegyezte: világossá tette Putyin számára, hogy Ukrajna teljes körű orosz inváziója súlyos gazdasági következményekkel fenyegeti a Kremlt. Emlékeztetett arra, hogy a NATO-tagoknak erkölcsi és törvényes joguk van a szövetségesek védelmére, de „a kollektív védelem elve nem terjed ki Ukrajnára.”
