Boris Johnson brit miniszterelnök vasárnap a G7-ek bajorországi csúcstalálkozóján Emmanuel Macron francia elnökkel az ukrán–orosz háborúról tárgyalva határozottan ellenzett minden kísérletet a békés rendezésre, mert szerinte az csak hosszú távú instabilitáshoz vezethet – közölte az rbc.ua hírportál a brit kormány sajtószóvivői irodájára hivatkozva.
A jelentés szerint a brit kormányfő a megbeszélésen hangsúlyozta, hogy az ukrajnai konfliktus megoldására tett mostani kísérletek csak hosszú távú instabilitáshoz vezetnének, és Vlagyimir Putyin orosz diktátornak engedélyt adnának arra, hogy a jövőben mind a szuverén országokat, mind a nemzetközi piacokat manipulálja. Ugyanakkor Johnson és Macron egyetértett abban, hogy most kritikus pillanat van a konfliktus lefolyását tekintve, és lehetőség nyílik rá, hogy Ukrajna megfordítsa a háború menetét.
Mindkét vezető hangsúlyozta, hogy támogatni kell Ukrajnát, hogy megerősítse pozícióit mind a háborúban, mind a jövőbeni tárgyalásokon. A francia elnök egyúttal nagyra értékelte a brit miniszterelnök által jelenlegi Ukrajnának nyújtott katonai támogatást, és a két vezető megállapodott az erre irányuló munka fokozásában.
