Megkapta az ukrán haderő az első VAB páncélozott szállító harcjárműveket, melyeket a francia kormány adományozott az országnak.
A francia védelmi minisztérium szerint az ukránok „nagy mennyiségű” VAB-t kapnak majd Párizstól, a mostani szállítmány csak az első csomag.
Számos más országgal ellentétben Franciaország nem teszi közzé, hogy pontosan milyen számú, mekkora értékű haditechnikai eszközzel segítik az ukránokat.
A VAB az 1970-es évek óta áll a francia haderő szolgálatában, több ezer darabbal rendelkeznek belőle. A jármű elsődleges feladata a gyalogsági alakulatok mobilitásának elősegítése, minimális fegyverzettel, egy 7,62-es vagy egy 12,7 milliméteres géppuskával van ellátva.
Ahogy számos más, Ukrajnának küldött haditechnikai eszköz, a VAB is épp hadrendből kivonás alatt áll, utódja a VBMR és a VBMR-L páncélozott katonai jármű lesz.
