A brit újság feltételezése szerint a nyugati országok békefenntartóinak biztonsági garanciát kell vállalniuk Ukrajna számára az Oroszországgal kötött tűzszünetről szóló megállapodás esetén. Ez az egyik olyan gondolat, amelyről „most már egyre gyakrabban beszélnek nemcsak nyilvános vitákban, hanem a Westminsterben is zárt ajtók mögött”.
A francia elnök támogatja ezt az elképzelést, és már tárgyalt is ukrán kollégájával, Volodimir Zelenszkijjel és Donald Tusk lengyel miniszterelnökkel. A brit kiadvány megjegyezte, hogy a Downing Street és az Elysee palota szóvivői nem cáfolták, hogy Starmer és Macron a múlt heti találkozón megbeszélték a lehetőséget.
A londoni és párizsi illetékesek azonban titokban tartják a tárgyalások részleteit. A The Telegraph jelentése szerint azonban számos tekintélyes brit kormányzati forrás hangsúlyozza, hogy Starmer még nem értett egyet teljesen ezzel a kezdeményezéssel. A jelentés szerint legújabb harcias kijelentését Macron ezt a parlamenti pártokkal folytatott találkozón tette. Jordan Bardella, a szélsőjobboldali Nemzeti Unió párt képviselője a találkozó után kijelentette, hogy „nincsenek korlátok és nincsenek vörös vonalak”.
Manuel Bompard, a Meghódíthatatlan Franciaország párt koordinátora pedig azt mondta, hogy „aggodalommal telve érkezett a találkozóra, és még jobban aggódva távozott”.
A kommunisták képviselője viszont azt mondta a médiának, hogy Macron térképeket mutatott az orosz csapások lehetséges új irányairól. „Macron említett egy forgatókönyvet, amely beavatkozást indíthat el: a front előretörése Odessza vagy Kijev irányában” – mondta Fabien Russel.
