A témáról tartott voksoláson a résztvevők kétharmada igennel szavazott. A dán miniszterelnök szerint ezzel egyszerre üzentek a NATO-nak és Vlagyimir Putyinnak is.
Megszavazta a dán lakosság, hogy Koppenhága csatlakozzon az Európai Unió védelmi politikájához – jelentette be Mette Frederiksen miniszterelnök szerda éjjel. A témáról tartott voksoláson a résztvevők kétharmada igennel szavazott.
A dán kormányfő az eredményt ismertetve kijelentette, hogy a jelentős mértékű támogatással üzenetet küldtek nemcsak az EU-nak, hanem a NATO-nak és Vlagyimir Putyin orosz elnöknek is.
Megmutattuk, hogy miközben Putyin lerohan egy szabad országot, és Európa stabilitását fenyegeti, mi, többiek, még jobban összefogunk. Európa más lett az Ukrajna elleni orosz háború kezdete, február 24. után, mint előtte volt – fogalmazott Frederiksen. A NATO-tag Dánia az egyetlen EU-tagország volt, amely eddig nem vett részt az EU közös védelmi politikájában.
Ursula von der Leyen európai bizottsági elnök és Charles Michel, az Európai Tanács elnöke történelmiként méltatta a szavazás eredményét. Meggyőződésük, hogy a döntés mind Dánia, mind az EU számára kedvező hatásokkal járhat.
