A jelentés szerint a német diplomácia vezetője megerősítette az Európai Unió ígéretét, miszerint Ukrajnát a jövőben felveszi a tagjai közé. „Ukrajna jövője az Európai Unióban, a szabadság közösségében van, ami hamarosan Lisszabontól Luhanszkig terjed majd. Minden faluval, minden méterrel, amit Ukrajna felszabadít, minden méterrel, amelyen menti a népét, bővíti az Európai Unióba vezető útját” – mutatott rá Annalena Baerbock.
Ukrajna még tavaly is megkapta az Európai Unió tagjelölti státuszát. Az országnak azonban számos feltételnek meg kell felelnie ahhoz, hogy az EU teljes jogú tagja lehessen.
