Elon Musk nyilvánosan méltatta a republikánusok egyik újabb hivatalos elnökjelöltjét Tim Scott szenátort.
A milliárdos vállalkozó, a Twitter tulajdonosa, a világ egyik leggazdagabb embere a közösségi médiumon dicsérte pénteken az afroamerikai politikus első hivatalos választási reklámját azzal, hogy „nagyszerű nyilatkozat”.
A politikus hirdetésében többi között az egyéni felelősség fontosságára hívja fel a figyelmet, és bírálja, hogy a mai gyerekek olyan kultúrában nőnek fel, amelyben „mindenki áldozat”.
Tim Scott szenátor, az amerikai Kongresszus felsőházának egyetlen afroamerikai republikánus tagja, pénteken hivatalosan is benyújtotta a jelöltté váláshoz szükséges dokumentumokat a Szövetségi Választási Bizottsághoz, és ugyanazon a napon indította el 6 millió dollár költségvetésű első reklámkampányát.
Tim Scott az amerikai republikánus elnökjelölt-verseny egyre szélesebb mezőnyéhez csatlakozik.
Eddig hivatalosan Donald Trump volt elnök, Nikki Haley, az Egyesült Államok korábbi ENSZ-nagykövete és volt kormányzó jelentette be indulását. Szintén regisztrált jelölt a szövetségi választási testületnél Asa Hutchinson, Arkansas állam volt kormányzója, Larry Elder kaliforniai médiaszemélyiség és Vivek Ramaswamy indiai származású vállalkozó.
Pénteken indulási szándékra utaló reklámot jelentetett meg Glenn Youngkin, Virginia állam kormányzója is.
A várakozások szerint a jövő héten Ron DeSantis, Florida kormányzója szintén hivatalos bejelentést tesz indulási szándékáról. A tavaly novemberben elsöprő többséggel újraválasztott republikánus kormányzó hetek óta járja az országot, több államban vett részt kampányrendezvényen, ugyanakkor hivatalosan még nem beszélt indulásáról.
A közvélemény-kutatások szerint Donald Trump magasan a legnépszerűbb a republikánus választók között, őt követi egyelőre jelentős lemaradással Ron DeSantis, miközben a többi jelölt támogatottsága elenyésző.

„Itt, a Twitteren közlöm, hiszen mégiscsak a kék madárkáról van szó: tiszta és őszinte beszélgetést folytattam Elon Muskkal délután” – írja a francia államfő a bejegyzésben, utalva a Twitter védjegyévé vált szimbólumra.
A francia elnök beszámolója szerint szó esett köztük a felhasználói fiókok szabályozásának átláthatóságáról és a tartalmak moderálásának és a szólásszabadság védelmének jelentős erejű megerősítéséről is. Mint írta, az említett területeken a Twitter lépéseket tett annak érdekében, hogy megfeleljen az uniós előírásoknak.
Hozzátette: Elon Musk megerősítette abbéli szándékát is, hogy a Twitteren még jobban működjön a kiskorúak védelme. Macron csütörtök reggel a Good Morning, America (Jó reggelt, Amerika!) című televíziós műsor vendége volt, ahol elmondta: úgy véli, a szólásszabadság „felelőségekkel és határokkal jár”.
Elon Musk október végén vált a Twitter új tulajdonosává. Tulajdonos-vezérigazgatóként menesztette a cég legfőbb vezetőit, így egymaga alkotja a vállalat igazgatótanácsát. Az elmúlt hetekben szavazást írt ki Twitter-oldalán arról, hogy visszaállítsák-e Donald Trump volt amerikai elnök felfüggesztett fiókját. Mint ahogy ezt, úgy később az összes felfüggesztett felhasználói fiókra kihirdetett „amnesztiát” is megszavazták a felhasználók.
A Twitter tulajdonosváltása óta egyre nagyobb az aggodalom a gyűlöletbeszéd és az online bántalmazás kapcsán, melyek alapja a Musk által sokszor hangoztatott, teljes értékű szólás- és véleményszabadság „helyreállítása” volt. Ez idő alatt az EU többször is felhívta Musk figyelmét az uniós szabályok betartására.
