«Я сподіваюся, що на засіданні Європейської ради у червні вдасться надіслати чіткий і позитивний сигнал українському народу», — заявив він під час виступу в Європарламенті.
За його словами, те, що ЄС є «маяком надії» для мешканців країн, що межують із Євросоюзом, вселяє гордість.
Ті, хто хоче приєднатися до ЄС, мають отримати підтримку у проведенні необхідних реформ та підготовки, додав ірландський прем’єр.

Згідно з остаточними результатами виборів в Ірландії, ліві націоналісти з Sinn Féin матимуть лише на одне місце менше, ніж центристська партія Fianna Fáil.
Як і очікувалося, партія лівих націоналістів Sinn Féin отримала найбільше
голосів на дострокових виборах в Ірландії в суботу, згідно останніх, але не
остаточних результатів опублікованих у понеділок. Місцева преса повідомила, що партія,
яка обіцяла добиватися референдуму про об’єднання Ірландії, отримала 24,5
відсотка голосів виборців. Дві великі правоцентристські партії, Fianna Fáil,
яка зовні підтримує нинішній кабінет, набрала 22,2%, а Fine Gael, яка зараз при
владі – 20,9%.Через досить складну виборчу систему цілком імовірно, що про
остаточний склад Дублінського парламенту стане відомо через кілька днів.
Незважаючи на те, що Sinn Féin отримала найбільшу
кількість голосів, експерти вважають, що партія буде відставати від інших двох
партій у кількості депутатських мандатів, оскільки вона змогла висунути набагато
менше кандидатів ніж її конкуренти. Перед виборами Fine Gael, і Fianna Fáil
заявляли, що не будуть вступати в коаліцію з Sinn Féin, через те, що остання
була політичним крилом Ірландської республіканської армії (IRA).
До недавнього зміцнення Sinn Féin, в політичному просторі традиційно панували Fine Gael і Fianna Fáil, передаючи естафету
одне одному упродовж майже ста років з часу незалежності країни. Sinn Féin – єдина найбільша
ірландська партія, яка діє як в Ірландії, так і у Великобританії – у Північній
Ірландії. У 1997 їй вдалося потрапити до парламенту в Ірландії, і з того часу
вона зосереджується на відновленні історичних зв’язків між прикордонними
регіонами та Північною Ірландією – створенні єдиної Ірландії. Вважається, що
Sinn Féin виступала як політичне крило колись озброєної ІРА проти британської
влади Північної Ірландії протягом майже трьох десятиліть антианглійської
терористичної кампанії католицької громадянської армії, хоча партія цього
