Mint arról ma már beszámoltunk, Kanada katonai kontingenst küld a szigetországba négy hónapra, hogy kiképzésben részesítse az ukrán katonákat.A jelentés szerint a védelmi miniszter azt írta: Kanada újraindítja az Unifier műveletet, így akár 225 kanadai katonát küldhet Nagy-Britanniába az ukrán harcosok kiképzésére. „Az önök segítségével katonáink megállíthatatlan erővé válnak” – címezte üzenetét Kanadának Olekszij Reznyikov.

A hírportál emlékeztetett arra, hogy Vadim Prisztajko londoni ukrán nagykövet augusztus 1-jén egy interjúban elmondta, mintegy tízezer fős ukrán kontingens kap a NATO és a brit fegyveres erők szabványainak megfelelő katonai alapkiképzést Nagy-Britannia területén. A London által az ukránok számára kínált katonai kiképzés elsősorban olyan önkénteseket céloz meg, akik még nem rendelkeznek katonai alapképzéssel, de létezik speciálisabb képzés is tengerészek számára – tette hozzá. Mint jelezte, az önkéntesek 25-40 év közöttiek, férfiak és nők vegyesen, különböző szakmákból, akik többnyire nem rendelkeztek katonai alapkiképzéssel. A tanfolyam 120 napos és egy-egy turnusban 10-10 ezren vesznek rajta részt – mutatott rá a diplomata.

Ukrán tisztviselők szombaton elítélték Oroszország nagy-britanniai nagykövetségének megnyilvánulását, amelyben az Azov-zászlóalj harcosait „megalázó” kivégzésre szólítottak fel – jelentette az AFP.

Félbeszakadt a brit Konzervatív Párt két kormányfőjelöltje közti kedd esti, élőben közvetített televíziós vita, miután a vitát vezető moderátor eszméletét vesztette.
Liz Truss és Rishi Sunak második vitáját, amelyet a Talk TV televíziós csatorna élőben közvetített, félbe kellett hagyni, miután az egyórás vita felénél puffanás hallatszott. A kamera éppen Trusst mutatta, aki a zajtól megriadt és felkiáltott.

Az Európai Bizottság négy új kötelezettségi eljárást indított az Európai Unióból kilépett (Brexit) Nagy-Britannia ellen, mivel London az uniós intézmények felszólítása ellenére sem hajtotta végre a Brexit feltételrendszeréhez kapcsolódó észak-írországi jegyzőkönyv jelentős részeit.
Pénteki sajtóközleménye szerint az EU brüsszeli végrehajtó testülete több mint egy évig tartózkodott jogsértési eljárások megindításától, annak érdekében, hogy közös megoldásokat találjon a londoni vezetéssel. A bizottság szerint azonban az Egyesült Királyság nem hajlandó érdemi megbeszéléseket folytatni a kereskedelmi megállapodásokat szabályozó jegyzőkönyvről, továbbá a brit parlament az észak-írországi jegyzőkönyv módosításáról szóló törvényjavaslatot fogadott el, ami aláássa az együttműködést.
A pénteken elindított eljárások egyebek között az Észak-Írországból Nagy-Britanniába irányuló árumozgáshoz kapcsolódó vám-, felügyeleti és kockázatellenőrzési követelmények be nem tartására, illetve a jövedéki adókról szóló uniós jogszabály átültetésének elmulasztására vonatkoznak.
Az Egyesült Királyságnak két hónapja van, hogy választ küldjön Brüsszel aggályaira.
Az Európai Unió és London vitája abból ered, hogy a Brexit-megállapodáshoz fűzött 64 oldalas jegyzőkönyv alapján az Egyesült Királysághoz tartozó Észak-Írország a Brexit után is harmonizált viszonyrendszerben maradt az Európai Unió egységes belső piacával és vámuniójával. Így viszont a Nagy-Britannia és Észak-Írország közötti áruforgalmat eseti ellenőrzéseknek kell alávetni annak megakadályozására, hogy Észak-Írországból Írországba – vagyis az uniós egységes piacra – ellenőrizetlen termékek kerüljenek be. Ez a megoldás az ára annak, hogy ezeket az ellenőrzéseket nem Észak-Írország és az Ír Köztársaság határán kell elvégezni, amelynek szabad átjárhatóságát az északír konfliktust lezáró nagypénteki megállapodás előírja.

A jelentés szerint a brit védelmi miniszter elmondta, a következő katonai segélycsomag tucatnyi tüzérségi fegyvert, több mint 1600 páncéltörő rendszert, 50 000 tüzérségi lövedéket, tüzérség elleni radarrendszereket és több száz drónt tartalmaz majd. Az újság megjegyezte, hogy Boris Johnson miniszterelnök még a múlt hónapban is 1 milliárd fontnyi támogatást ígért Kijevnek. Az Ukrajna elleni teljes körű háború kezdete óta a brit támogatások összege elérte a 2,3 milliárd fontot.
A brit kormány honlapja közzétette az Ukrajnának szállított fegyverek listáját:
több mint 20 db M109-es önjáró tarack;
36 db vontatott L119-es tüzérségi löveg;
több mint 50 000 lövedék a szovjet gyártású tüzérségi fegyverek számára;
radarrendszerek (a mennyiség nincs megadva);
több mint 1600 páncéltörő rendszer (NLAW és Javelin);
drónok, köztük több száz pilóta nélküli kamikaze repülő eszköz.

Rishi Sunak volt pénzügyminiszter és Liz Truss külügyminiszter versenghet a brit miniszterelnöki tisztségért a kormányzó Konzervatív Párt szerdán befejeződött alsóházi frakciószavazási sorozatának eredményeként.
A versengés valójában a Konzervatív Párt vezetői tisztségéért folyik, de mivel a párt kormányon van, az új tory vezető az Egyesült Királyság következő miniszterelnöke is lesz.
Sunak és Truss közül a következő hetekben a Konzervatív Párt 160 ezer tagja választja meg a párt következő vezetőjét postai, illetve elektronikus úton.
A párttagok a szavazólapokat augusztus első hetében kapják meg, a voksok leadási határideje szeptember 2., a szavazás eredményét szeptember 5-én hirdetik ki.
Az alsóházi frakció szavazássorozatának szerdai, utolsó fordulójára Sunak, Truss és Penny Mordaunt kereskedelempolitikai államtitkár maradt versenyben. Sunak 137, Truss 113 voksot szerzett, Mordaunt 105 frakciószavazattal kiesett.
