Oroszország Ukrajna elleni háborúja a kimerültség szakaszába lépett, így nehéz megjósolni a végét, ezért a NATO-tagországoknak készen kell állniuk Ukrajna hosszú távú támogatására – jelentette ki Jens Stoltenberg NATO-főtitkár egy csütörtöki lapinterjúban, adta hírül az rbc.ua hírportál.
A jelentés szerint Stoltenberg a Rzeczpospolita című lengyel lapnak nyilatkozva kifejtette, hogy az Ukrajna elleni háború 13 hete alatt Oroszország súlyos stratégiai hibákat követett el, és Vlagyimir Putyin, a Kreml ura nem tudta végrehajtani a gyors lerohanásra vonatkozó tervét. Ukrajna ugyanakkor bebizonyította, hogy kész és képes ellenállni – tette hozzá.
A NATO-főtitkár felszólította a szövetségeseket, hogy álljanak készen egy elhúzódó háborúra, ezért Ukrajnának hosszú távú támogatásra lesz szüksége. „A NATO elsődleges feladata a támogatás nyújtása, méghozzá hosszú távon. Ezért arra kérem a szövetségeseket, hogy töltsék fel a tartalékaikat. Mert ez egyre inkább a kimerítésre irányuló háború” – mutatott rá Jens Stoltenberg, aki újból megismételte, hogy a NATO nem részese a konfliktusnak, és igyekszik megakadályozni az eszkalációt.

A fegyverek iránti kereslet jócskán megugrott az Egyesült Államokban, miután Oroszország inváziója miatt fegyvereket szállítottak Ukrajnának. A szerdai találkozón a fegyverek utánpótlásáról és egy hosszabb háborúra való felkészülés volt a téma.
A Pentagon szerint a leghasznosabb fegyverek közé tartozik a Javelin páncéltörő rakéta, és a Stinger légvédelmi rakéta is – ezeket Washington és szövetségesei szinte naponta szállítanak Ukrajnába.
