A hét végére döntés születik az Európai Unió és az Egyesült Királyság jövőbeli kereskedelmi kapcsolatáról, noha a két fél álláspontja továbbra is messze eltérő – tudatta rövid közleményében Ursula von der Leyen, az Európai Bizottság elnöke Brüsszelben csütörtök hajnalban, miután éjszakába nyúló megbeszélést folytatott Boris Johnson brit miniszterelnökkel.
Ursula von der Leyen szerda este Brüsszelben fogadta Boris Johnsont, hogy személyes megbeszélésen mozdítsák ki holtpontjáról a majdani viszonyrendszerről zajló tárgyalásokat.
Az uniós bizottság elnöke közölte: élénk és érdekes vitát folytatott Johnsonnal a tárgyalások jelenlegi állásáról, áttekintve a fennmaradó kérdések listáját.
„Világosan megértettük egymás álláspontját, amelyek messze eltérnek egymástól” – fogalmazott.
Tájékoztatása szerint abban állapodtak meg, hogy a tárgyaló delegációkat azonnal ismét összehívják, hogy megpróbálják megoldani a fennmaradó, alapvető nézeteltéréseket.
Von der Leyen és Johnson az elmúlt napokban két alkalommal tartott csaknem két órás telefonbeszélgetést.
A mostani megbeszélésről kiadott közös közlemény szerint is jelentősek maradtak a nézetkülönbségek a három kulcsfontosságú területen:
- az egyenlő versenyfeltételek,
- a megállapodás betartatásának módozatai és
- a halászat szabályozása ügyében.
David Frost brit főtárgyaló küldöttségével együtt vasárnap óta Brüsszelben folytat megbeszéléseket, mivel a múlt héten Londonban tartott tárgyalási fordulón sem jött létre megállapodás a három vitatott területen.
Az Egyesült Királyság január 31-én kilépett az Európai Unióból. Távozásának napján 11 hónapos, vagyis december 31-ig tartó átmeneti időszak kezdődött azzal a céllal, hogy legyen idő a megállapodásra a majdani kétoldalú viszonyrendszer feltételeiről, mindenekelőtt egy szabadkereskedelmi egyezményről. A szabadkereskedelmi megállapodás elmaradása azt jelentené, hogy Nagy-Britannia és az EU kereskedelme januártól a Kereskedelmi Világszervezet (WTO) általános szabályrendszere alapján folytatódna, ez viszont vámok megjelenésével járna a jelenleg akadálytalan kétoldalú kereskedelmi forgalomban.

A brit kormány közölte, hogy hajlandó visszavonni a belső piaci törvényjavaslat vitatott záradékait, amelyek felülbírálták volna a kötelező erejű uniós kiválási megállapodás észak-írországi kereskedelemmel kapcsolatos részeit, megsértve ezzel a nemzetközi jogot.
