Brink, az Egyesült Államok új ukrajnai nagykövete, miről hivatalos bejelentés még nem volt, de a jövetelével kapcsolatos információ már fenn van a diplomata életrajzi oldalán – adta hírül az rbc.ua hírportál hétfőn az USA ukrajnai nagykövetségének honlapjára hivatkozva.
A jelentés szerint Brinket Joe Biden amerikai elnök nevezte ki az USA ukrajnai nagykövetévé április 25-én, amit az amerikai szenátus május 18-án egyhangúlag jóváhagyott. A diplomata 2022. május 29-én érkezett meg Kijevbe.
A hírportál emlékeztetett arra, hogy Bridget Brink ukrajnai kinevezése előtt az Egyesült Államok szlovákiai nagykövete volt. Ezt megelőzően helyettes államtitkári posztot töltött be a külügyminisztérium európai és eurázsiai ügyek részlegén (2015-2018), ahol a Kelet-Európával, a Kaukázussal és az európai konfliktusokkal kapcsolatos kérdésekért felel. Az üzbegisztáni Taskentben (2014-2015) és a grúziai Tbilisziben (2011-2014) az Egyesült Államok nagykövetének helyetteseként dolgozott.

Ismét megkezdte munkáját az Egyesült Államok nagykövetsége szerdán Kijevben, ahonnan az Oroszország által Ukrajna ellen február 24-én indított teljes körű háború miatt evakuálni kellett az amerikai diplomatákat – jelentette be Daniel Langenkamp, a diplomáciai képviselet szóvivője a Reuters hírügynökségnek nyilatkozva.
Hivatalosan is újraindítjuk a munkát – mondta a szóvivő az UNIAN ukrán hírügynökség beszámolója szerint. Elmondása szerint első körben csupán néhány diplomata kezdi meg tevékenységét Kijevben a külképviselet személyzetéből. A nagykövetség fölé szerdán kitűzték az amerikai zászlót.
Christina Queen ideiglenes ügyvivő nagykövet és néhány amerikai diplomata már május 8-án megérkezett a fővárosba. A külképviselet akkori sajtóközleményében kiemelték, hogy a nagykövetség visszatérését a nácizmus felett aratott győzelem napjára időzítették. A Jevropejszka Pravda hírportál emlékeztetett arra, hogy az amerikai diplomaták április 26-án tértek vissza Ukrajnába, de akkor még Lembergbe.
Korábban jelezték, hogy május végéig készülnek visszatérni a fővárosba, de még ezt is attól tették függővé, miként alakul a biztonsági helyzet Kijevben.
