Elkezdték kedden elbontani a Kijev központjában lévő, az ukrán és az orosz nép barátságát jelképező szovjet emlékmű egy részét – jelentette kedden az Ukrajinszka Pravda hírportál.
Azt a bronzból készült, a nyolcvanas évek eleje óta álló szoboregyüttest távolítják el az emlékműből, amely egy ukrán és egy orosz munkást ábrázol, és amelyet Ukrajna és Oroszország „újraegyesítésének” emlékére állítottak. A mellette lévő vörös gránitból készült, több alakos szoborcsoportot később bontják el a kijevi vezetés döntése értelmében. A szobrok fölötti fém boltívet viszont megtartják, de átnevezik és az ukrán zászló színeivel világítják meg.
Az ukrán Szabadság Rádió internetes oldala emlékeztetett arra, hogy a „Népek Barátságának Boltíve” elnevezésű emlékművet Kijev fennállásának 1500. és a Szovjetunió létrehozásának 60. évfordulójára készülve állították fel 1981 novemberében.
Vitalij Klicsko kijevi polgármester közölte, hogy a városvezetés emellett tervezi, hogy átnevezi az összes közterületet, amelynek neve az egykori Szovjetunióra vagy Oroszországra emlékeztet.
