A Külügyminisztérium hétfőn cáfolta Vadim Prisztajko londoni ukrán nagykövet, volt külügyminiszter rádióinterjúban tett kijelentését, miszerint Ukrajna kész lemondani a NATO-csatlakozásról a háború elkerülése érdekében – adta hírül az rbc.ua hírportál a külügyi szóvivőre hivatkozva.
Oleh Nyikolenko a hírportálnak nyilatkozva hangsúlyozta: „Vadim Prisztajko londoni ukrán nagykövetnek a szavai, miszerint Ukrajna kész fontolóra venni a NATO-csatlakozásról való lemondást, hogy megakadályozza az Oroszországgal vívott háborút, ki lettek ragadva a szövegkörnyezetből.”
A szóvivő leszögezte, hogy a béke és az állampolgárok életének megőrzése érdekében Ukrajna kész bármilyen formátumú párbeszédet kezdeményezni országokkal és nemzetközi szervezetekkel. Ugyanakkor rámutatott, hogy Prisztajko nagykövet a BBC Radio 5-nek adott interjúban helyesen mondta, hogy Ukrajna alkotmánya rögzíti a NATO-tagság elérését, de Ukrajna jelenleg nem tagja a NATO-nak vagy más biztonsági szövetségnek. „Ezért országunk számára a kulcskérdés a biztonság szavatolása. És kétségtelen, hogy a legjobb ilyen garancia Ukrajna azonnali csatlakozása lenne a NATO-hoz” – emlékeztetett hozzá Nyikolenko, megjegyezve, hogy szerinte az Ukrajnát fenyegető veszélyek itt és most léteznek, ezért alapvetően sürgetővé válik a garanciák kérdésére adott válasz keresése. „Ukrajna Alkotmányával ellentétes döntés ugyanakkor nem hozható” – mutatott rá Oleh Nikolenko.

A jelentés szerint a diplomata az UATV csatornának nyilatkozva azt mondta, most fontos annak a megértése, hogy mennyire valós az orosz támadás veszélye. Úgy vélte Oroszország a mostani „háborús ködösítéssel” egyszerűen csak a tárgyalásokat akarja befolyásolni.
Prisztajko hangsúlyozta: „a mi feladatunk és a partnereink feladata az, hogy különválasszuk az igazságot a fenyegetéstől, és megértsük, mennyire valós a veszélye annak, hogy diplomáciai módszerekkel ne lehessen elejét venni a háború aktív szakaszának.”
Riporteri kérdésre válaszolva, hogy Ukrajna behívna-e brit katonaságot a területére, a nagykövet kijelentette: „ha valós a fenyegetés, ha megkezdődnek az aktív hadműveletek, mindent kérni fogunk, beleértve brit csapatok behívását a területünkre.”
