Aláírta az európai hagyományos fegyveres erőkről szóló szerződés (CFE) felmondásáról rendelkező törvényt Vlagyimir Putyin orosz elnök, a dokumentumot a jogi információk hivatalos portálján hétfőn tették közzé.
A CFE-szerződést 1990-ben írták alá Párizsban, az Európai Biztonsági és Együttműködési Szervezet (EBESZ) 1999-es isztambuli csúcstalálkozóján pedig elfogadták a dokumentum aktualizált változatát. A kiigazított szerződést azonban csak négy ország – Oroszország, Fehéroroszország, Kazahsztán és Ukrajna – ratifikálta.
Oroszország 2007-ben felfüggesztette a CFE-szerződésben való részvételét mindaddig, amíg a NATO-országok nem ratifikálják az kiigazításáról szóló megállapodást, és nem hajtják végre „lelkiismeretesen a dokumentumot”.
