Korábban a dezertálók öt év börtönbüntetést kaptak. Ugyanakkor széles körben érkeztek jelentések arról, hogy az Ukrajnában szolgáló orosz katonák megtagadták a harcot, vagy elmenekültek az országból, hogy elkerüljék a behívót.
