Szerbiának és Koszovónak késznek kell mutatkoznia arra, hogy rendezze a viszonyát, és csökkentse a kialakult feszültségeket – hangsúlyozta Ursula von der Leyen, az Európai Bizottság elnöke hétfőn Pristinában.
Úgy vélte, a kapcsolat rendezése érdekében Koszovónak meg kell alakítania a koszovói szerb önkormányzatok közösségét, Szerbiának pedig el kell ismernie Koszovó függetlenségét.
Mint mondta: az Európai Unió egy 30 milliárd eurós befektetést lehetővé tevő piacot szeretne kialakítani a Nyugat-Balkánon, erre azonban csak akkor van lehetőség, ha Belgrád és Pristina rendezi a viszonyát.
Koszovó 2008-ban egyoldalúan kiáltotta ki függetlenségét Szerbiától, amit Belgrád azóta sem hajlandó elismerni,
és továbbra is saját, déli tartományának tekinti a többségében albánok lakta területet. A két fél között 2013-ban a kapcsolat normalizálását célzó párbeszéd kezdődött, jelentős előrelépés azonban nem történt.
Észak-Koszovóban négy, többségében szerbek lakta település Belgrádra tekint fővárosként, és szembeszegül a pristinai kormányzattal. Tavaly év végén az észak-koszovói szerb kisebbség tagjai úgy döntöttek, kivonulnak a koszovói állam intézményeiből.
A szerb kisebbség nagyobb autonómiát követel magának,
de Albin Kurti koszovói kormányfő attól tart, ez oda vezethetne, hogy a szerbek egy népszavazáson úgy döntenek: nem maradnak Koszovóban, hanem inkább Szerbiához csatlakoznak.
Ursula von der Leyen pristinai sajtótájékoztatóján elítélte a szeptember 24-i észak-koszovói támadást, amelynek során szerb nemzetiségű maszkos fegyveresek és koszovói rendőrök között alakult ki tűzpárbaj. Egy rendőr meghalt, egy megsebesült, három támadót pedig lelőttek. Az Európai Bizottság elnöke szerint az elkövetőket felelősségre kell vonni.
