 Санкції, які зараз спрямовані проти Сирії, включають нафтове ембарго, обмеження на певні інвестиції, заморожування ЄС активів Центрального банку Сирії, обмеження на експорт обладнання та технологій, котрі можуть бути використані для внутрішніх репресій, а також моніторинг комунікацій через Інтернет або телефонну мережу, які також можуть бути використані для перехоплення інформації.
 Згідно з повідомленням, рада виключила із санкційного списку трьох осіб, які померли. Санкційний список наразі містить 289 осіб і 70 організацій, представникам яким заборонили в’їзд і заморозили активи через те, що вони відповідальні за насильство проти цивільного населення Сирії, бенефіціарів чи прихильників режиму або тих, котрі мають зв’язки з такими людьми чи організаціями.
 Санкції проти Сирії були введені у 2011 році у відповідь на насильницькі репресії проти мирного населення режимом Асада. Вони не стосуються гуманітарної допомоги, транспортування продуктів харчування, медикаментів та медичного обладнання.
 ЄС залишається відданим пошуку довготривалого та надійного політичного вирішення сирійського конфлікту відповідно до резолюції Ради Безпеки ООН та Женевської декларації 2012 року, – додають автори.
