A jelentés szerint Riisalo az err.ee észt hírportálnak nyilatkozva újságírói kérdésre elmondta: „nem tudjuk, hogyan fognak viselkedni az ukránok, ha kitör a háború, és hogy Észtország-e az a hely, ahová elsősorban szeretnének menni. De természetesen készen kell állnunk, és mára jól felkészültünk.” Hozzátette: „Észtország normális helyzetben mintegy 100 embert tud nemzetközi védelem alá venni, de rendkívüli helyzet esetén lehetőségünk van akár 2000 ember elhelyezésére is.”



Mint a miniszter hangsúlyozta, nem hiszi, hogy 20 000 ukrán menekült érkezhet Észtországba. „Nem valószínű, hogy lesz 20 000 menekült. De ha lesz, természetesen elhelyezést fogunk biztosítani számukra. Ezen aktívan dolgozunk” – húzta alá. Úgy vélte, Észtország kész akár 100 embert is elhelyezni Viao és Vägeva városokban, de a további 1900 menekült elhelyezéséről nem beszélt. „Nem tudjuk, mekkora az esélye az ukrajnai eszkalációnak, és azt sem tudjuk, hogy az ukrán menekülők hova mennének ebben az esetben” – mutatott hozzá Signe Riisalo.



Mint hírportálunk február 1-jén beszámolt róla, Mateusz Morawiecki lengyel miniszterelnök egy ukrajnai lapinterjúban kijelentette, hogy Lengyelország készen áll az ukrán menekültáradat fogadására egy Ukrajna elleni orosz támadás esetén, mert egyre nagyobb szüksége van olcsó munkaerőre. Úgy vélte, a menekülthelyzet jelenleg nem tekinthető fenyegetőnek, ugyanakkor a potenciális ukrán menekülteket az olcsó munkaerővel hasonlította össze, amelynek a befogadása szerinte soha nem árt Lengyelországnak.
