Váratlanul bejelentette lemondását vasárnap Igor Matovic szlovák miniszterelnök.
„Úgy döntöttem, hogy elfelejtem az SaS-szel és a Za ľudíval szemben támasztott követelményeinket. Ezek egyikéhez sem fogunk ragaszkodni” – mondta a miniszterelnök.
„A nagyhét előestéjén, amelyet a szenvedés, az áldozat és a megbocsátás jelképeként ünnepelünk, úgy döntöttem, hogy teszek egy gesztust azoknak az embereknek, akik követelték a miniszterelnöki lemondásomat” – mondta Igor Matovic, a parameter.sk tudósítása szerint.
Helyét Eduard Heger pénzügyminiszternek adná át, aki elmondta, elfogadja a miniszterelnöki felkérést.
Igor Matovic bejelentését pozitívan fogadták a négypárti szlovák kormánykoalíciót alkotó pártok, legfőképp a miniszterelnök lemondását leghangosabban követelő, Richard Sulík vezette liberális Szabadság és Szolidaritás (SaS) párt, illetve az Emberekért (Za ludí) párt, amelynek elnöke, Veronika Remisová „államférfihoz méltó gesztusnak” minősítette Matovic bejelentését. A SAS már a múlt héten felfüggesztette részvételét a koalícióban.
Igor Matovic egy héttel ezelőtt már jelezte, hogy hajlandó lemondani a kormányfői posztról és más posztot betölteni a kormányban, ha koalíciós partnerei teljesítik korábban tett ígéreteiket, és távoznak az általuk betöltött posztokról. Ezeknek a feltételeknek egy része közben teljesült. A szlovák kormánykoalíció a járványkezeléssel kapcsolatos eltérő elképzelések miatt sodródott válságba.
