Az USA már Joe Biden amerikai elnök hétfői ukrajnai útja előtt kapcsolatba lépett Oroszországgal, ami a két „atomhatalom közötti közvetlen konfliktus elkerülését” szolgálta – jelentette az Associated Press amerikai hírügynökség, számolt be az rbc.ua hírportál.
A jelentés szerint a hírügynökség arról tájékoztatott, hogy bár a Fehér Ház nem ment bele a részletek kommentálásába az ügyben, azt mindazonáltal közölte, hogy az amerikai fél röviddel Joe Biden útja előtt felvette a kapcsolatot az oroszokkal, hogy „biztosítsák a konfliktusmentességet, és hogy elkerüljék a téves kalkulációkat, amelyek közvetlen konfliktushoz vezethetnek a két nukleáris hatalom között”.
Az Associated Press szerint azonban Bident amerikai repülőgépek védték Lengyelország légteréből. „Az amerikai felderítő repülőgépek, köztük egy fedélzeti radarral felszerelt E–3 Sentry és egy RC–135W Rivet Joint elektronikus vezérlésű repülőgép Lengyelország légteréből figyelték Kijevet” – írta az amerikai hírügynökség.
