Alar Karis észt elnök meg van győződve arról, hogy Ukrajna jövőbeni NATO-tagsága nem képezheti tárgyalások tárgyát, és óva intett az Oroszországgal kötött olyan megtévesztő fegyverszünettől, amely Ukrajna engedményeivel járna – közölte vasárnap az Ukrajinszka Pravda hírportál az észt elnök litván kollégájával, Gitanas Nausedával közös sajtótájékoztatójára hivatkozva.
A jelentés szerint a két elnök tárgyalt a kétoldalú együttműködés kérdéseiről, valamint a július 9-én kezdődő washingtoni NATO-csúcs előkészületeiről. Karis megjegyezte, hogy a csúcstalálkozó legfontosabb témái Ukrajna hatékony és hosszú távú támogatása a háború jelenlegi forró szakaszában és azt követően, valamint a NATO védelmi képességeinek erősítése.
„A NATO-nak határozott jelzést kell küldenie, hogy mindaddig támogatja Ukrajnát, amíg szükséges. Ukrajna NATO-tagsága nem lehet tárgyalások tárgya, a tagság felé irányuló mozgása visszafordíthatatlan” – mutatott rá az észt államfő. Mint hangsúlyozta, a történelemnek számos tanulsága van arra nézve, hogy az agresszorok megbékítése csak átmeneti békét biztosít.
„Ha nem tartja tiszteletben Ukrajna területi integritását és szuverenitását, az csak újabb és rosszabb háborúkhoz vezet a jövőben. Oroszország és más agresszorok magabiztosabbak lesznek ennek eredményeként. Az egyetlen stratégia, amely most működhet, az, hogy a lehető legtöbb támogatást nyújtsuk Ukrajnának” – húzta alá Alar Karis.

Alar Karis észt elnök a Denisz Shmihal ukrán miniszterelnökkel folytatott megbeszélésen megerősítette április 3-án Tallinnban, hogy támogatja Ukrajna katonai célpontok elleni támadásait Oroszországban, és kijelentette, hogy „tökéletesen jogos, hogy az ukrán erők tönkretegyék az orosz hadsereg számára kritikus infrastruktúrát” – írja a The Kyiv Independent.
Teljesen legitimnek tartom, hogy Ukrajna katonai és egyéb célpontokat támadjon meg Oroszországon belül – amelyek a háborút támogatják –, hogy lassítsa az orosz hadigépezet előrehaladását – olvasható az észt elnöki hivatal sajtóközleményében.
„Ukrajna háborúban áll. Oroszország nem korlátozza magát az ország megtámadásában” – fogalmazott Alar Karis, akinek a kijelentései azután hangzottak el, hogy az Egyesült Államok figyelmeztette Ukrajnát, korlátozza az orosz energiainfrastruktúra elleni támadásokat, hivatkozva a globális olajárakra gyakorolt lehetséges következményekre, valamint a további orosz megtorlásokra.

Ezért nem szabad korlátozni az Ukrajnának szállított fegyvereket.” Azt is hangsúlyozta, hogy országa továbbra is támogatja Ukrajnát, elsősorban katonai téren.

Az észt államfő kifejtette: „Észtország addig fogja támogatni Ukrajnát, amíg a háború tart. Csatlakoztunk a G7-ek kezdeményezéséhez, hogy biztosítsuk a kétoldalú segítségnyújtást Ukrajnának.” A 2024 és 2027 közötti időszakban is támogatjuk Ukrajnát – tette hozzá. „Minden évben védelmi költségvetésünk 0,25%-át biztosítjuk Ukrajnának, és mindenkit arra biztatunk, hogy nyújtson segítséget Ukrajnának” – hangsúlyozta Alar Karis.
Észtország 2027-ig 1,2 milliárd eurós támogatást nyújt Ukrajnának. Az elnök azt is jelezte, hogy Észtországnak konkrét tervei vannak Ukrajna helyreállítására, amihez Oroszország befagyasztott vagyonát kellene felhasználni.

Volodimir Zelenszkij és Alar Karis, Ukrajna és Észtország elnöke megállapodott abban, hogy Észtország segítséget nyújt az ukrán területek aknamentesítésében – közölte Zelenszkij az újságírókkal a találkozót követően. Alar Karis észt elnök hivatalos látogatásra tett Kijevben, számolt be az Interfax-Ukrajina.
„Ma országunk helyreállításának kérdését is megvitattuk a közös lépéseket. Konkrét együttműködésben állapodtunk meg az ukrán területek aknamentesítését illetően, többek között észt szakemberek bevonásával” – mondta.
Elmondása szerint „részletesen megvitatták a közös védelmi ipar létrehozásának lehetőségét Ukrajnában”. „Külön kiemeltük az üzleti élet résztvevőinek együttműködését, megvitattuk a vállalkozók kockázatok elleni biztosításának kérdését. Kihangsúlyoztuk a további együttműködés fontosságát a digitalizáció terén” – mondta Zelenszkij.
„Észtország nagyon lelkiismeretesen közelítette meg az újjáépítéssel kapcsolatos megállapodásainkat, és már konkrét eredményeket ért el Zsitomir régióban. Ma hivatalosan is megnyíltak az észt partnerek által újjáépített óvodák Ovrucsban. Nem rossz kezdés. Köszönünk mindent” – tette hozzá.
Zelenszkij fontosnak nevezte Észtország támogatását. „Fegyvereket is kaptunk – ez megmenti katonáink életét. Egyben politikai támogatást is kapunk – az Oroszország elleni szankciók, Ukrajna támogatása az Európai Unió intézményeiben, a NATO csatlakozásunk támogatása, az ukrán népnek nyújtott humanitárius, gazdasági segítség formájában” – tette hozzá az elnök.

Letette a hivatali esküt hétfőn Alar Karis új észt elnök, az Észt Nemzeti Múzeum volt igazgatója.
Karis a parlament (Riigikogu) ülésén tette le a hivatali esküt. Az új elnök a 2016-ban megválasztott Kersti Kaljulaidot váltotta a tisztségben.
Alar Karist augusztus végén választotta meg a parlament a balti ország új elnökévé. A 101 fős parlament akkor jelen lévő 80 képviselője közül 72 támogatta Karis jelöltségét, amelyet legalább 68 törvényhozónak kellett jóváhagynia. A törvényhozásnak a második körben sikerült megválasztani az új elnököt, mivel az államfő személyéről szóló első szavazáson 63 képviselő szavazott Karisra, aki mindkét alkalommal az egyetlen jelölt volt.
A 63 éves biológus tudós jelöltségét a kormánykoalíció pártjai, az Észt Reformpárt és az Észt Centrumpárt támogatták.
Az EU- és NATO-tag, 1,3 millió lakosú balti országban az államfő inkább csak ceremoniális hatáskörrel bír, de ő a fegyveres erők főparancsnoka, ő nevezi ki a kormány tagjait, és írja alá a jogszabályokat, illetve meg is vétózhatja a törvényjavaslatokat.
