Віцепрезидент США Джей Д. Венс розпочне насичене турне Європою та Близьким Сходом 10 лютого, яке розпочнеться з Саміту з питань штучного інтелекту в Парижі та продовжиться Мюнхенською конференцією з питань політики безпеки.
Віцепрезидент виступить на Саміті з питань штучного інтелекту у французькій столиці під головуванням президента Франції Еммануеля Макрона та співголовуванням прем’єр-міністра Індії Нарендри Моді. Серед учасників саміту – високопоставлений китайський урядовець і топменеджери міжнародних технологічних компаній. У неділю ввечері Макрон оголосив, що Франція інвестує в проєкт 109 мільярдів євро.
Після Паризького саміту Джей Д. Депутата Європарламенту від Люксембургу, соціаліста Марка Ангела в середу обрали новим віцепрезидентом Європейського парламенту замість Єви Кайлі, яка була звільнена в грудні через корупційний скандал.
Нового віцепрезидента обрали 307 голосами на пленарному засіданні Європейського парламенту в Страсбурзі.
Серед кандидатів на цю посаду були також Анналіза Тардіно, італійська депутатка Європарламенту від партії «Ідентичність і демократія» (ID), яка отримала 185 голосів, та Гвендолін Дельбос-Корфілд, депутатка Європарламенту від французької партії «Зелені», яка отримала 98 голосів.
Єва Кайлі, віцепрезидентка ЄП від соціалістів, та троє її колег були заарештовані 9 грудня бельгійською владою через корупційний скандал. За даними поліції, під час обшуків у Брюссельському регіоні в рамках цієї справи було вилучено майже 1,5 млн євро. Згаданих осіб звинувачують у належності до злочинної організації, відмиванні грошей та корупції.
Європейський прокурор подав запит на зняття імунітету з Єви Кайлі 15 грудня.
У понеділок під час пленарного засідання в Страсбурзі Роберта Метсола, президентка Європейського парламенту, офіційно оголосила інформацію, опубліковану 2 січня, згідно з якою бельгійські судові органи у зв’язку з цією справою запросили відмову від імунітету двох інших депутатів Європарламенту від соціалістів Марка Тарабелли з Бельгії та Андреа Коццоліно з Італії. Вона також повідомила, що запит про відмову від імунітету буде переданий до Комітету ЄП з правових питань (JURI) для внесення пропозиції щодо прийняття необхідного рішення. Очікується, що остаточне рішення в їхній справі буде прийнято на наступному пленарному засіданні Європарламенту, яке розпочнеться 13 лютого.
