A svájci parlament felsőháza elutasította a kezdeményezést, amely 5 milliárd svájci frank (5,58 milliárd dollár) kiutalását irányozta elő Ukrajnának – számolt be az rbc.ua hírportál a Reuters brit hírügynökségre hivatkozva.
A jelentés szerint a hírszolgálat azt írta, hogy a 15,1 milliárd frankos (10,1 milliárd frank Svájc fegyveres erőinek finanszírozására és további 5 milliárd frank Ukrajna támogatására) csomag mérlegelése során a felsőház 28 képviselője nemmel szavazott és csak 15 voksolt igennel.
A Reuters tisztázza, hogy a parlament felsőházának jobboldali képviselői a kezdeményezés egyik fő ellenzőjévé váltak. Szerintük a csomag állítólag sérti Svájc úgynevezett „adósságfékjét”.
A csomagot még áprilisban támogatta a svájci parlament egyik bizottsága. Az Oroszország által Ukrajna ellen folytatott háború kapcsán feltételezhető volt, hogy hozzájáruljon Svájc biztonságához és az európai békéhez. A pénzt Ukrajnának akarták kiutalni a megrongálódott infrastruktúra helyreállítására.
