 A jelentés szerint a brit kiadvány emlékeztetett arra, hogy Olaf Scholz német kancellár már szeretne változtatni a szavazás menetén az EU Tanácsban. Ez nemcsak a szavazó országok számától függ, hanem a lakosság számától is. Az unióhoz való csatlakozás esetén Ukrajna az ötödik legnagyobb ország lesz, és a szavazatok mintegy 9%-ával rendelkezik majd a tanácsban.
 Mint a lap rámutatott, Kijev szoros kapcsolatai Varsóval és más kelet-európai országokkal gyengíthetik Franciaország és Németország befolyását. Portugália ugyanakkor szkeptikusan fogadja Ukrajna európai uniós csatlakozásának gondolatát. Lisszabon olyan befizetővé válhat, amelyik több pénzt fizet be az EU költségvetésébe, mint amennyit kap.
 A hírportál emlékeztetett rá, hogy az Európai Tanács június 23-án megadta Ukrajnának a tagjelölti státuszt az európai uniós belépéshez. A döntést minden uniós vezető egyhangúlag támogatta a brüsszeli csúcstalálkozón. Ezt követően Josep Borrell, az EU külügyi és biztonságpolitikai főképviselője azt mondta, hogy az Európai Unió azonnal megkezdi Ukrajna csatlakozásának az előkészítését.
