Jennifer Psaki, a Fehér ház sajtótitkára a július 20-i tájékoztatón kijelentette: az amerikai kormányzat megkezdte intézkedései kidolgozását Kuba felelősségre vonását illetően a szigeten végbemenő tüntetések kapcsán.
„Az elnök (az Egyesült Államok Joe Biden) utasítására foganatosítjuk azokat az intézkedéseket, amelyek egy időben támogatják Kuba népét és felelősségre vonják a kubai rezsimet”, közölte Jennifer Psaki.
Elmondása szerint a Pénzügyminisztérium továbbra is azon dolgozik, hogy kiderítse, mely kubai tisztviselők felelősek az erőszakért, üldöztetésért és az emberi jogok megsértéséért. Egyben kijelentette, hogy pénzek átutalásával foglalkozó csoportot kíván létrehozni, hogy a kubaiak támogatását célzó pénzügyi műveleteket közvetítők nélkül tudják lebonyolítani. Az Egyesült Államok többek között fontolóra vette nagykövetsége alkalmazottjai számának növelését Havannában, többek között a védelem fokozása érdekében.
