A szankciók kevésbé hatékonyak a korábban vártnál, de Ausztria nem támogatja az orosz gázra vonatkozó embargót, mert az árthat neki – jelentette ki csütörtökön Karl Nehammer osztrák kancellár, miután Bécsben tárgyalt Orbán Viktor miniszterelnökkel, számolt be az rbc.ua hírportál a telex.hu magyar hírszájtra hivatkozva.
A jelentés szerint az osztrák kancellár úgy vélte, hogy az ukrajnai háború kérdése komplikált. Európában az a többségi álláspont, hogy a háború soha nem jó eszköze a politikának – tette hozzá. Szerinte a szankciók nem olyan gyorsan hatnak, mint ahogy azt előzetesen gondolták, és emiatt van némi frusztráció.
„Amellett kiállok hogy a szankcióknak jobban kell fájniuk annak, akire kiróttuk, mint azoknak, akik kirótták. Az osztrák álláspont világos: a gázembargó bevezetése nem lehetséges. Ha gázembargó lenne, akkor borulna a német ipar, ami magával rántaná az osztrák gazdaságot is” – adott hangot véleményének Karl Nehammer. Ugyanakkor megjegyezte, hogy a világnak továbbra is támogatnia kell Ukrajnát a szankciók lassú hatása ellenére is,
Mint hírportálunk május 6-án beszámolt róla, Margaret Schrambeck osztrák gazdasági miniszter egy lapinterjúban kijelentette, hogy Ausztria továbbra is ellenzi az oroszországi gázszállításra vonatkozó embargót, „vörös vonalnak” nevezve a lépést. „A gázembargó egyértelmű vörös vonal Ausztria számára – mondta. Hozzátette: „sem mi, sem Németország nem fog tudni kitartani. Egyértelmű a „nem” Ausztria és Németország részéről is, mert az embargó többet árt, mint amennyit használ.”

A kérdéssel kapcsolatban Denisz Smihal ukrán miniszterelnök nyilatkozott a CBC News kanadai tévécsatornának.
„Ez nem állítja meg azonnal a háborút, azonban segít az ellenséggel való harcban, mely egyre gyengébb lesz, s végül nem lesz elegendő pénze a háború finanszírozására” – jelentette ki.
Köszönetet mondott Kanadának, hogy az elsők között vezette be a gáz- és olajembargót. Arra szólította fel az európai országokat, hogy kövessék Kanada példáját, és fosszák meg Oroszországot a háború finanszírozásához szükséges forrásoktól.
