„A rendszerszintű rasszizmus ellen idén kirobbant tüntetések ráirányították a figyelmet a világban lévő igazságtalanságokra, amelyek gyökerei a gyarmatosítás és a rabszolgaság sötét múltjában keresendők” – szögezte le António Guterres a rabszolgaság megszüntetésének világnapja alkalmából közzétett üzenetében.
A főtitkár kiemelte, hogy az ENSZ-nek a Nemzetközi Munkaügyi Szervezetre (ILO) hivatkozó becslései szerint ma is több mint 40 millió ember esik áldozatául a rabszolgaság valamilyen formájának, beleértve közel 25 millió kényszermunkást.
Hangsúlyozta, hogy az etnikai kisebbségek, az őslakosok és a migránsok különösen veszélyeztetettek, és a rabszolgaság formái közt említette a gyermekmunkát, a munkaerő-kizsákmányolást, az adósrabszolgaságot, az emberkereskedelmet, a kényszerházasságot és a gyerekkatonaságot is.
Felszólította a világ kormányait, a civil társadalmat és a magánszektort, tegyenek meg mindent annak érdekében, hogy véget vessenek e szörnyű gyakorlatnak.
A világszervezet 1949 december 2-án fogadott el az emberkereskedelmet, illetve mások szexuális kizsákmányolását tiltó egyezményt, amely 1951-ben lépett hatályba.

Jegyzékben tiltakozott az amerikai, a brit és a kanadai nagykövetségnél az orosz külügyminisztérium, amiért június végén kifüggesztették épületükre az LMBT-zászlót – közölte kedden a TASZSZ hírügynökség.
Az amerikai diplomáciai képviselet a szivárványzászló kifüggesztését azzal indokolta június 25-én, hogy a Gilbert Baker aktivista tervezte jelkép 1978-ban éppen azon a napon jelent meg először egy San Francisco-i melegfelvonuláson.
A zászló megjelenése az épületen komoly figyelmet kapott az orosz médiában, mert egybeesett az orosz alkotmány módosításáról megtartott országos szavazás első napjával. A megváltoztatott alkotmány kizárólag a férfiak és nők között megkötött házasságot ismeri el.
Dmitrij Peszkov, a Kreml szóvivője az üggyel kapcsolatban korábban megengedhetetlennek nevezte annak a törvénynek a megsértését, amely tiltja a homoszexualitás propagandáját a fiatalkorúak körében.
