A politikus megfogalmazása szerint nem várhatja el önkénteseitől, akik kampányában dolgoznak, hogy idejüket és anyagi lehetőségeiket rá áldozzák, ha „nem látszik a győzelem felé vezető világos út”.
Donald Trumppal kapcsolatban úgy fogalmazott, világos számára, hogy a republikánus előválasztásokon részt vevő szavazók a volt elnöknek akarnak újabb lehetőséget adni, és megjegyezte, hogy a volt elnökkel fennálló nézeteltérései ellenére is világos, hogy Donald Trump magasan felülmúlja a hivatalban lévő elnököt, a demokrata párti Joe Bident.
Azt is hozzátette, hogy folytatja a munkát Floridában, ahol „példát mutatnak az ország számára”.
Donald Trump közleményben reagált, amelyben köszönetet mondott Ron DeSantisnak a támogatásért.
Florida kormányzója hivatalosan tavaly júniusban jelentette be indulását az elnökjelöltségért, mint Donald Trump legkomolyabb párton belüli kihívója, támogatottsága viszont folyamatosan lemorzsolódott.
A két politikus között az előválasztási kampány során komoly szócsaták voltak, élesen bírálták egymást.
A döntés bejelentése után megszólalt politikai elemzők úgy vélekedtek, hogy Ron DeSantis beállása Donald Trump mögé egyenesebbé teheti a volt elnök útját a hivatalos republikánus elnökjelöltség felé.
Ron DeSantis kampányának felfüggesztése után, Donald Trumpnak egyetlen jelentős párton belüli kihívója maradt Nikki Haley volt dél-karolinai kormányzó, korábbi ENSZ-nagykövet személyében. A posztra Donald Trump elnökként jelölte Nikki Haley-t.
Az amerikai előválasztási verseny január 22-én Iowa államban kezdődött jelölőgyűlésekkel, amelyeken Donald Trump magabiztosan győzött. Az első, szavazóhelyiségekben tartott előválasztást kedden tartják New Hampshire államban.
Az előválasztások folyamata június közepén zárul az Egyesült Államokban, majd július közepén a Republikánus Párt, augusztus közepén pedig a Demokrata Párt is megtartja az országos jelölő konvenciót, amelyeken véglegessé válik, hogy kit indítanak a november 5-i elnökválasztáson.

Egyértelműen elhatárolódott Ukrajna NATO-hoz való csatlakozásától a republikánus párti elnökjelöltségre pályázó Ron DeSantis. A floridai kormányzó szerint ugyanis Ukrajna tagsága nem szolgálja az Egyesült Államok biztonsági érdekeit – hívta fel a figyelmet a South China Morning Post hongkongi lap.
Ez csak további kötelezettségeket jelentene számunkra, tehát ha további kötelezettségekkel számolunk, akkor milyen előnyöket kapunk cserébe? – tette fel a kérdést az amerikai politikus a The Glam Beck Program című podcastadásban.
Hozzátette: nem gondolja, hogy az Egyesült Államoknak „biankó csekket” kellene adnia Ukrajnának, hacsak nem tesz érdemi lépéseket az Oroszországgal folytatott háború lezárására. DeSantis arról is beszélt, Washingtonnak nem szabad végtelen összegekkel támogatnia Ukrajnát, álláspontja szerint a kijevi hatóságok finanszírozása indokolt lehet, ha az a konfliktus végéhez vezet. A floridai kormányzó az elmúlt hónapokban többször rámutatott: Joe Biden amerikai elnök túl sokat költött Volodimir Zelenszkij ukrán államfő háborús erőfeszítéseire, emiatt az Egyesült Államok belpolitikai kérdései háttérbe szorultak.
