Volodimir Zelenszkij elnök a luxemburgi parlament előtt csütörtökön online elmondott beszédében reményét fejezte ki, hogy támogatni fogják Ukrajna európai uniós tagjelölti státuszát – adta hírül az Ukrajinszka Pravda hírportál.
A tudósítás szerint Zelenszkij a luxemburgi honatyák előtt hangsúlyozta: „Ukrajna már de facto az Európai Unió részévé vált.” Hozzátette: „már kétoldalú és uniós szinten is együttműködünk a teljes jogú tagsággal arányos mértékben. Mi bizonyíthatja ezt jobban, mint egymás védelme?”
Az elnök meggyőződésének adott hangot, hogy Luxemburg júniusban támogatni fogja Ukrajna hivatalos uniós tagjelölti státuszának a megadását, majd később Ukrajna teljes jogú európai uniós tagságát is.
Zelenszkij egyúttal meghívta Luxemburg miniszterelnökét, hogy látogasson Ukrajnába a két ország közötti együttműködés megvitatása céljából.

Jean Asselborn luxemburgi külügyminiszter szerdán egy interjúban kijelentette, hogy Vlagyimir Putyin orosz elnök „fizikai kiiktatása” lehet az egyetlen módja az ukrajnai háború befejezésének – jelentette a Luxemburg Times nevű hírportál.
Asselborn a 100,7 nevű helyi közszolgálati rádióadónak adott interjújában a portál szerint azt mondta: „Ha az orosz nép tisztában lenne azzal, hogy Putyin milyen pusztítást végez, mennyi félelemért és mennyi halálos áldozatért felelős, akkor véleményem szerint a Kreml megbukna”. „Ezt csak kívánni lehet, és azt is, hogy Putyint megsemmisítsék” – idézte a külügyminiszter szavait a Luxemburg Times.
Asselborn azt is kijelentette: „nem tudja elképzelni”, hogy a felek között zajló jelenlegi béketárgyalások eredményre vezethetnek. A tárgyalások első fordulóját hétfőn tartották, míg a második fordulóra a hírek szerint szerda este kerül sor.
A kormánykoalíciós Luxemburgi Szocialista Munkáspárthoz tartozó (LSAP) külügyminiszter nyilatkozatát követően a konzervatív Alternatív Demokratikus Reformpárt Xavier Bettel luxemburgi kormányfőhöz fordult azzal a kérdéssel, helyénvalónak tartja-e, hogy kormányának külügyminisztere nyilvánosan halálos erőszakról beszél egy külföldi államfő ellen. Bettelnek egy hét áll rendelkezésre, hogy válaszoljon a kérdésre.
Vlagyimir Putyin orosz elnök február 24-én hajnalban rendelte el katonai művelet végrehajtását a Donyec-medencében, leszögezve, hogy Oroszország tervei között nem szerepel Ukrajna megszállása, ugyanakkor törekedni fog az ország demilitarizálására. Az orosz erők mindazonáltal Ukrajna más térségeiben, köztük Kijevben is támadtak katonai és polgári célpontokat, és támadást indítottak a Moszkva-barát szakadárok is az általuk ellenőrzött kelet-ukrajnai területekről. Az ukrán vezetés hadiállapotot vezetett be, majd benyújtotta európai uniós csatlakozási kérelmét. A felek számos halálos áldozatról is beszámoltak. A NATO a háború megindulása után aktiválta többnemzetiségű gyorsreagálású haderejét. Az Európai Unió és a nyugati országok fegyvereket szállítanak Ukrajnának és szankciókat hoztak Oroszország ellen.
