Máramarosszigeten nyit konzulátust Ukrajna, az új diplomáciai kirendeltségtől a Külügyminisztérium azt reméli, hogy az ukrán kisebbség támogatása mellett az „az ukrán–román kapcsolatok erősítését szolgáló eszköz lesz” – közölte Dmitro Kuleba külügyminiszter a romániai ukrán kisebbség képviselőivel tartott találkozón, adta hírül kedden a zaxid.net hírportál.
Az ukrán diplomácia vezetője a határon túli ukránoknak elmondta: „Én döntöttem a konzulátus megnyitásáról Máramarosszigeten. Tudom, hogy ez fontos, kulcsfontosságú az ukránok számára Romániában.” Az új konzulátus „minőségi szolgáltatásokhoz nyújt hozzáférést és jobb együttműködést tesz lehetővé az ukránokkal kultúránk megőrzése érdekében és az ukrán-román kapcsolatok erősítését szolgáló eszköz lesz” – tette hozzá, megjegyezve, hogy a konzulátusra mind az ukrán–román kapcsolatok fontosságát, mind a romániai ukrán közösség támogatásának szükségességét tekintve szükség van.
Romániában hivatalosan közel 60 ezer ukrán nemzetiségű lakost tartanak nyilván, nem hivatalos adatok szerint a számuk eléri a 100 ezret. Az ukrán közösség a harmadik legnagyobb nemzetiségi kisebbség Romániában.
