A kanadai média szerint több száz palesztinbarát tüntető gyűlt össze a kanadai nagyváros központjában lévő szépművészeti múzeum előtt, ahol az estet rendezték.
„A rendezvényt biztonsági okokból törölték” – közölte Jenna Ghassabeh, a miniszterelnöki hivatal sajtóreferense késő este az AFP francia hírügynökséggel. A nyilatkozó további részletekkel nem szolgált.
Korábban, a nap folyamán a legfejletteb ipari országok csoportjának (G7) két vezetője megbeszélést folytatott, amelynek során az olasz kormányfő szerint számos kérdést megvitattak, köztük a nagyon nehéz közel-keleti válságot.
A CBC helyi televízió arról számolt be, a fogadásra érkező vendégek egy részének bejutását tüntetők akadályozták meg, akik ellenezték Kanada válaszát az Izrael és a Gázai övezetben hatalmon lévő Hamász szélsőséges palesztin iszlamista mozgalom közötti konfliktusra. A kanadai műsorszolgáltató szerint 200-300 tüntető vett részt a tiltakozásban.
A közösségi oldalakon terjedő videókon és fényképeken is erős rendőri jelenlét látszik a múzeum közelében.
Az október 7-én a Gázai övezetből Dél-Izraelbe beszivárgó Hamász-kommandók példátlan támadása által kirobbantott háborúban legalább 1160 ember vesztette életét, többségük civil – derül ki az AFP hivatalos izraeli adatokon alapuló számításából.
Megtorlásul Izrael a Hamász „megsemmisítését” tűzte ki célul, és hatalmas szárazföldi és légi támadást indított, amelynek következtében a Hamász egészségügyi minisztériuma szerint több mint harmincezer ember halt meg Gázában, túlnyomó többségük civil.

A jelentés szerint a kanadai kormányfő „szörnyű hibának” nevezte az esetet, és azt mondta, hogy Anthony Rotha, a parlament alsóházának időközben lemondott elnöke a felelős ezért. „Mindannyian, akik pénteken ebben a teremben voltunk, nagyon sajnáljuk, hogy felálltunk és tapsoltunk, bár nem tudtuk a kontextust” – tette hozzá.

A tudósítás szerint Trudeau elmondta, hogy Kanada több mint 8 milliárd dollárt, valamint több mint egymilliárd dollár katonai támogatást nyújtott Ukrajnának. „Költségvetésünket kétmilliárdos hitellel bővítettük Ukrajna kormánya számára az ország helyreállításának és újjáépítésének a támogatására. Most 500 millió kanadai dollár új finanszírozást biztosítunk katonai segítségnyújtásra” – tette hozzá.
A kanadai kormányfő közölte, hogy Ottawa további 287 darab AIM-7 Sparrow rakétát és 10 000 darab 155 milliméteres lövedéket ad az ukrán hadseregnek. Azt is bejelentette, hogy Kanada csatlakozik ahhoz a többnemzetiségű erőfeszítéshez, amely az ukrán pilóták F-16-os vadászgépekre való kiképzésére irányul. „Mi Kanadában részesei leszünk a pilóta-kiképzési nemzetközi programnak. Csatlakozunk a kiképzési kezdeményezéséhez a Leopard harckocsikra” – mondta el Justin Trudeau.

A jelentés szerint Ukrajnában hivatalosan még nem erősítették meg a kanadai miniszterelnöki látogatást. A kanadai televízió szerint Trudeau akkor érkezett Kijevbe, amikor az ukrán hadsereg fokozta régóta várt ellentámadását, hogy kiszorítsa az orosz hadsereget az ország megszállt keleti és déli régióiból. A kanadai miniszterelnök helyettesével, Chrystia Freeland kormányfő-helyettessel együtt érkezett Ukrajnába.
„Trudeau ukrajnai útját szigorú titoktartás mellett tervezték. Ottawát akkor hagyta el, amikor a kínai állítólagos beavatkozás miatti politikai válság drámai lendületet kapott David Johnston különleges jelentéstevő és korábbi főkormányzó hirtelen lemondását követően” – emlékeztetett a CBC.
Kijevben Justin Trudeau látogatását az Ukrajnáért folytatott harcban elesettek emlékfalának megkoszorúzásával kezdte.

Justin Trudeau kanadai kormányfő a Liberális Párt csütörtöki pártkongresszusán ígéretet tett rá, hogy indul a két év múlva esedékes következő választásokon.
Trudeau az öt év után először személyes részvétellel megrendezett kongresszuson szólt a mintegy 3500 liberális küldötthöz. Beszédében megtiszteltetésnek nevezte, hogy vezetheti a párt választási küzdelmét, és folytathatja „egy jobb jövő építését.”
Trudeau politikai pályafutása során eddig három választást nyert meg, több mint hét éve miniszterelnök. Ugyanakkor politikai ellenlábasa, a konzervatívokat vezető Pierre Poilievre is nagy támogatottságnak örvend a közvélemény-kutatások szerint, különösen az utóbbi időben a növekvő infláció és a lakáshiány miatt. Trudeau politikáját bírálva Poilievre többször is hangsúlyozta, hogy már túl hosszú ideig volt kormányfő.
Az Angus Reid Intézet márciusi közvéleménykutatása szerint a kormányfő támogatottsága 37 százalékos, 2021 szeptembere óta a legalacsonyabb, és a kanadaiak mintegy 57 százaléka elégedetlen Trudeau-val.
