Izlandon szombaton tartottak parlamenti választásokat: az előzetes eredmények alapján egyelőre kérdéses, hogy együtt marad-e hatalmon a világ egyik leggazdagabb országát irányító koalíciós kormány.
A Baloldali-Zöld Pártot képviselő, hivatalban lévő miniszterelnök, Katrín Jakobsdóttir azt mondta, először meg kell várni pártja pontos eredményét, azután tudják kiértékelni a helyzetet. Nyilvánvalóan sok mindent figyelembe kell venni mielőtt új kormányt alakítanának, leginkább azt, hogy a többi kormánypárt, illetve a kormánykoalíció együtt milyen eredményt ér el a választásokon.
„Az előzetes eredmények alapján úgy tűnik, hogy mi veszítünk néhány helyet a parlamentben, a Haladó Párt viszont az előző választási eredményénél jobban szerepel” – mondta a miniszterelnök.
Utóbbi párttal, valamint a szociáldemokratákkal és a Kalózpárttal alkotják a zöldek jelenleg a kormánykoalíciót. Az 5%-os parlamenti küszöböt szakértők szerint kilenc párt lépheti át, így a kormányalakítás igencsak bonyolult lehet.

Antony Blinken amerikai és Szergej Lavrov orosz külügyminiszter a jövő héten kétoldalú találkozót tart Izlandon az Északi-sarkvidéki Tanács külügyminiszteri ülésének keretében – jelentette be szerdán a két külügyminisztérium.
Az orosz tárca közleménye szerint a két külügyminiszter szerdai telefonbeszélgetésében megállapodott, hogy május 20-án Reykjavíkban kétoldalú találkozót tartanak a nemzetközi tanácskozás szünetében. Megvitatták egy esetleges orosz-amerikai csúcstalálkozó lehetőségét is.
A telefonbeszélgetésben Moszkva szerint szó volt Észak-Koreáról, az iráni atomprogramról és a „stratégiai stabilitásról” is.
Az amerikai külügyminisztérium megerősítette, hogy az orosz és az amerikai diplomácia vezetője kétoldalú találkozót tart a jövő héten Izlandon.
Antony Blinken „megerősítette Joe Biden amerikai elnök eltökéltségét az amerikai állampolgárok védelmére és a határozott fellépésre az amerikai érdekek védelmében, válaszul az Egyesült Államoknak és szövetségeseinek ártó orosz cselekedetekre” – fogalmazott közleményében az amerikai külügyminisztérium.
Blinken felszólította Oroszországot, hogy helyezze szabadlábra Paul Whelan és Trevor Reed amerikai állampolgárokat, akiket Washington szerint Moszkva jogtalanul tart fogva.
Az elmúlt években egyre romlott a kétoldalú viszony, miután Washington a választásokba történt beavatkozással, kémkedéssel és kibertámadásokkal vádolta Moszkvát. A Biden-kormányzat áprilisban újabb szankciókat rendelt el Oroszországgal kapcsolatban álló jogi személyek ellen, és kiutasított hat orosz diplomatát. Moszkva hat amerikai diplomata kiutasításával és magas rangú amerikai tisztségviselők beutazásának tilalmával válaszolt.
A kölcsönös büntetőintézkedések ellenére a két ország tárgyalásokat folytat Vlagyimir Putyin orosz és Joe Biden amerikai elnök egy harmadik országban, júniusban tartandó csúcstalálkozójának lehetőségéről.
