Utalva Orbán Viktornak a január 9-i évnyitó sajtókonferenciáján tett kijelentésére, miszerint „várunk a sorunkra” az ukrán elnökkel történő találkozót illetően, Kuleba hangsúlyozta: „Magyarország miniszterelnöke túl jelentős politikai figura ahhoz, hogy a sorára várjon.” Szerinte a magyar kormányfőnek egyszerűen kitűnő a humora, az említett megjegyzése pedig elegáns diplomáciai kijelentés volt. Ismét méltányoltam Orbán Viktor diplomáciai tehetségét – mondta az ukrán miniszterelnök-helyettes.
Kuleba emlékeztetett arra, hogy az ukrán fél hónapokon át világos, közte nyilvános jelzéseket küldött Magyarországnak arról, hogy normális, tárgyszerű, mindkét felet kielégítő megoldás megtalálására irányuló párbeszédet szeretne. Hozzáfűzte: ő maga „százezerszer” megjegyezte, hogy úgy soha nem lesz, mint az oktatási törvény 2017-es elfogadásáig volt, de arról, hogyan legyen tovább, meg lehet állapodni – a szavaival – az ukrán törvények keretein belül, tiszteletben tartva Magyarország és Ukrajna értekeit.
„Az említett kommunikáció csúcspontját az ukrán elnök újévi beszéde jelentette, amikor az államfő néhány kifejezést magyar nyelven mondott el. Ezt követően Orbán miniszterelnök meghallott minket, és megérezte, ez az a pillanat, amikor válaszolnia kell. Ezzel együtt fontos, hogy ez az üzenet mindenekelőtt a magyar kisebbségnek, a magyar származású ukrán állampolgároknak szólt. Amikor találkozunk magyar partnereinkkel, konkrétan fogunk beszélni a Kárpátalja fejlesztését elősegítő projektekről” – mondta el az interjúban Dmitro Kuleba.
