Mint arról ma már beszámoltunk, Kanada katonai kontingenst küld a szigetországba négy hónapra, hogy kiképzésben részesítse az ukrán katonákat. A jelentés szerint a védelmi miniszter azt írta: Kanada újraindítja az Unifier műveletet, így akár 225 kanadai katonát küldhet Nagy-Britanniába az ukrán harcosok kiképzésére. „Az önök segítségével katonáink megállíthatatlan erővé válnak” – címezte üzenetét Kanadának Olekszij Reznyikov.
A hírportál emlékeztetett arra, hogy Vadim Prisztajko londoni ukrán nagykövet augusztus 1-jén egy interjúban elmondta, mintegy tízezer fős ukrán kontingens kap a NATO és a brit fegyveres erők szabványainak megfelelő katonai alapkiképzést Nagy-Britannia területén. A London által az ukránok számára kínált katonai kiképzés elsősorban olyan önkénteseket céloz meg, akik még nem rendelkeznek katonai alapképzéssel, de létezik speciálisabb képzés is tengerészek számára – tette hozzá. Mint jelezte, az önkéntesek 25-40 év közöttiek, férfiak és nők vegyesen, különböző szakmákból, akik többnyire nem rendelkeztek katonai alapkiképzéssel. A tanfolyam 120 napos és egy-egy turnusban 10-10 ezren vesznek rajta részt – mutatott rá a diplomata.
